James Parrott appeared in and directed dozens of comedies for Hal Roach, earning the respect of colleagues through his gentle character work and steady hand behind the camera while collaborating closely with Laurel and Hardy.

He remained committed to bringing laughter to audiences even as he faced personal struggles, and when he died he was laid to rest near his peers at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
