Biography
James Sexton began as a Liverpool dock labourer before rising to become general secretary of the National Union of Dock Labourers, advancing better wages, safer conditions, and organizing the syndicates that empowered maritime workers.
As Member of Parliament for St Helens he continued to fight for housing, pensions, and seamen's welfare, always returning to the docks to listen, and his grave may be found at St Helens Cemetery.
