Ján Francisci-Rimavský, born in 1822, became one of the foremost Slovak writers and cultural defenders of his generation, using the power of literature and journalism to preserve the language and identity of his people.
With a pen sharpened by patriotism and a spirit rooted in Slovak lands, he spent his life fostering national pride, eventually resting in the National Cemetery in Martin among the great figures he inspired.
