Biography
Jan Jacob Grootmeijer, born in 1887, took to the football field with a sense of teamwork that helped define the formative years of Dutch association football, playing with steady resolve and celebrating the camaraderie of his club.
After retiring, he encouraged youth leagues and reminded his community that sport could shape character as much as scorelines, and he now lies in Amsterdam's New Eastern Cemetery following his passing in 1957.
