Biography
Ján Kollár (1793-1852) was a Slovak-born poet, philologist, and advocate of Slavic cooperation whose verse, most notably in Slávy dcera, sought to articulate a common heart among disparate nations while gathering folk songs and encouraging cultural dialogue.
His language carried optimism for unity without erasing the distinct voices he cherished, and his friendships with Czech and Slovak scholars nurtured an enduring cultural conversation; he is interred at Olšany Cemetery, where passersby remember his lyrical dedication to shared heritage.
