Biography
Jan Sýs (1897–1942) was a Czech individual whose life was cut short during one of Europe's most turbulent periods. Born in the final years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, he came of age during the interwar period of Czechoslovak independence.
Sýs's relatively brief life spanned the optimistic early decades of the Czechoslovak state and the increasingly dark shadow of World War II. He died in 1942 during the Nazi occupation of Bohemia and Moravia, and was laid to rest at Olšany Cemetery in Prague.
