Biography

Jane Mary Clouston was a young woman whose life was cut tragically short in 1871 at the age of seventeen. Working as a maid, she represented the many domestic servants who formed an essential part of Victorian household life, often with limited opportunities and vulnerable circumstances.

Though her life was brief, Jane's memory is preserved in the Brockley Cemetery, where her tomb stands as a reminder of the countless individuals whose stories shaped the social fabric of the nineteenth century. Her grave serves as a poignant testament to a life interrupted too soon.
