Biography

Jaroslav Klapka was born in 1895 and came of age during the final years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He lived through the establishment of Czechoslovakia and the subsequent interwar period, experiencing both hope and the growing darkness of fascism.

Klapka died in 1945 at the age of 50, as World War II drew to its close. He was interred in the National Cemetery in Terezín, remembered among those whose lives were marked by the profound historical transformations and tragedies of the twentieth century.
