Biography

Jean-Baptiste Lourdet de Santerre was a French librettist born in 1732 who contributed to the operatic and theatrical traditions of France during the late 18th century. His work in creating libretti reflected the vibrant cultural life of pre-Revolutionary and Revolutionary France.

Lourdet de Santerre died in 1815 at an advanced age and was interred in Père Lachaise Cemetery. His long life spanned the height of the ancien régime through the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods, witnessing profound transformations in French culture and society.
