Jean Clamens

1850–1918 (age 68)

Biography

Jean Clamens devoted his life to the craft of stained glass, bringing light to sacred spaces and civic halls across France in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His mastery of color and form drew upon both traditional techniques and the renewed interest in Gothic revival imagery, allowing him to shape windows that invited contemplation and civic pride.

Those who knew his work remember the calm patience with which he oversaw each commission, guiding glass and lead with an artisan's care until a luminous whole emerged. He now rests in Cimetière de l'Est, leaving behind a legacy of vibrant panes that continue to illuminate the communities he served.
