Biography

Jean-Georges Rousseau de Larac (1799–1879) was a French gentleman whose long life extended well into the final decades of the nineteenth century. He lived through the transformative periods of French history, from the Napoleonic Wars through the consolidation of the Third Republic.

Rousseau de Larac's eighty-year lifespan and burial at Père Lachaise Cemetery indicate his family's established position within French society. He represents the generation of Frenchmen who bridged the early and late nineteenth century.
