Biography

Jean-Jacques Castex (1731–1822) was a French sculptor whose artistic career spanned more than five decades of French history. Working through the Rococo, Revolutionary, and Neoclassical periods, he witnessed and participated in the evolution of French artistic expression.

Castex's longevity in his profession allowed him to adapt to changing aesthetic values and patronage systems. His sculptural contributions to French art were honored through his burial in Père Lachaise Cemetery, where he rests among France's cultural elite.
