Jean-Richard Bloch
1884–1947 (age 63)
Biography
Jean-Richard Bloch, born in 1884, was a writer whose novels, essays and plays wrestled with questions of justice, human dignity and the responsibilities of citizenship in a fractious Europe.
He remained a voice for solidarity and resistance until his death in 1947, and he now rests at Père Lachaise Cemetery as a reminder of literature's power to confront the world.
