Biography
Jedediah Hyde Baxter devoted his considerable intellect to military medicine, overseeing hospitals and medical departments during and after the Civil War. He worked tirelessly to improve the care delivered to wounded soldiers and advocated for better organization and professionalism within the Army Medical Corps.
Later serving as Surgeon General of the United States Army, he helped shape lasting improvements in military health care that benefited generations of soldiers. He was buried with honor at Arlington National Cemetery, where his legacy of compassionate service endures.
