Biography

Jenkin Whiteside was a noted lawyer in Tennessee and the state’s second U.S. senator, where he lent his legal mind to the debates that shaped the young commonwealth’s role within the Union.

He returned to private practice after his service and remained a respected counselor until his death in 1822; he rests in Greenwood Cemetery as a reminder of his contributions to Tennessee’s civic life.
