Jens Rathke

Biography

Jens Rathke (1769–1855) was a distinguished Norwegian writer whose literary career spanned the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He contributed to the cultural life of Norway during a period of growing national consciousness and literary development, establishing himself as an important voice in Norwegian letters.

Rathke's work reflected the intellectual currents of his time, and his legacy as a writer helped shape Norwegian literary traditions. He was interred at Vår Frelsers gravlund, one of Oslo's most significant burial grounds, reflecting his standing in Norwegian society. His contributions to Norwegian literature endured beyond his death in 1855.
