Biography
Jeptha Wade (1811–1890) was a visionary businessman and entrepreneur who played a pivotal role in shaping American communications and civic infrastructure. As co-founder of the Western Union Telegraph Company, Wade helped establish the technological backbone of long-distance communication in the United States during the nineteenth century.
Beyond his business achievements, Wade was deeply committed to his community. He co-founded Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, envisioning a beautiful and dignified final resting place for the city's residents. His legacy extends beyond commerce to lasting monuments of civic pride, most notably the Wade Memorial Chapel, completed in 1901 and dedicated to his memory.
