Biography
Jeremiah Lanphier, born in 1809, began as a watch manufacturer before dedicating himself to the spiritual care of others, most notably organizing the now-legendary noon prayer meetings that drew men and women into a renewed hope during the hardships of the 1850s.
His gentle leadership in those gatherings restored countless souls and remains a touchstone of faith for many; he is respectfully laid to rest in the quiet sanctuary of Green-Wood Cemetery.
