Biography
Jeremy Francis Gilmer made his mark as an engineer whose skills shaped the defensive works of the Confederate Army, overseeing fortifications that reflected both his West Point training and his command of practical military engineering.
After the war he continued to teach and advise on construction and planning, leaving a carefully disciplined legacy of service that rests now in Laurel Grove North Cemetery.
