Jimmy Van Heusen
1913–1990 (age 77)
Biography
Born Edward Berryman "Jimmy" Van Heusen, he rose from Syracuse to become a songwriter for radio, film, and the big bands of the 1930s and 1940s.
His collaborations with Johnny Burke and later Sammy Cahn yielded standards such as "Dancing in the Dark," "All the Way," and "High Hopes," earning multiple Oscars and a place in the Great American Songbook; friends admired his witty charm as much as his craft.
