Biography

Jiří Haussmann was born in 1898 and quickly gained acclaim for witty, incisive writing that captured the pulse of Prague between the wars, often turning satire toward the foibles of modern life and the challenges of a young republic. Though his career was brief, his stories and sketches revealed a keen empathy for ordinary people.

He died in 1923 and was laid to rest at Olšany Cemetery, where readers still visit to honor a writer whose bright intellect and lively voice remain a cherished part of Czech literature.
