Joanna Vassa (1795-1857), daughter of the abolitionist Olaudah Equiano, carried forward her family’s commitment to justice by supporting the communities around her.

She lived with quiet dignity, and when her life concluded she was laid to rest at Abney Park Cemetery, where her gentle presence continues to inspire reflection.
