Joaquina López de Madariaga was a notable Spanish writer of the 19th century who contributed significantly to the literary landscape of the Basque Country. Born in 1813, she devoted her life to literary pursuits during a period when women's voices in Spanish literature were still emerging and gaining recognition.

López de Madariaga's work reflected the intellectual currents of her era, and she remained active in literary circles until her death in 1876. She was laid to rest in the Cemetery of Santa Isabel in Vitoria-Gasteiz, a final resting place befitting her cultural contributions to Spanish letters.
