Biography

Joe Hayashi joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team as a young Nisei soldier, responding with determination to serve the United States during World War II. His unit became one of the most decorated in the war, and Hayashi carried out each mission with quiet bravery.

He gave his life in 1945, yet his comrades remember him for the steady courage he showed under fire and for the bond he shared with fellow veterans. His sacrifice continues to represent the dedication of Japanese American soldiers from that era.
