Biography
Joe Horlen, who pitched for the Chicago White Sox through much of the 1960s, combined a smooth delivery with thoughtful preparation and became an All-Star in 1967 while anchoring a tough rotation; teammates admired how he handled high-pressure situations with calm assurance. He treasured the competitiveness of the game yet preferred to let his work ethic speak for him rather than the spotlight.
In retirement Joe invested time in mentoring youth and remained thankful for the community that cheered for him, enjoying long walks and conversations with friends who remembered his quiet generosity. He was laid to rest at Agudas Achim Memorial Gardens, where family members keep his memory alive through stories of perseverance and warmth.
