Biography
Joe Stydahar was born in 1912 in Shinnston, West Virginia, where his early love of sport blossomed into a remarkable career on the gridiron. After starring at West Virginia University, he joined the Chicago Bears and became one of the most celebrated tackle-blockers of the 1930s, eventually earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He later returned to West Virginia, coaching and mentoring young players and staying close to the community that raised him, and he now rests at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum where friends still remember his competitive drive and kind spirit.
