Biography
Johann Baptist Streicher was born into the renowned Streicher family of piano makers in 1796 and extended the legacy of finely crafted Viennese instruments through his own workshop. His sensitive touch and meticulous attention to action and tone earned the admiration of pianists and composers across the empire, making Streicher pianos a cornerstone of salons and concert halls in Vienna.
His devotion to the art of piano making left a lasting imprint on the musical life of Austria, and after his death in 1871 his name remained synonymous with integrity of sound. He was laid to rest at the Vienna Central Cemetery, where admirers could pay their respects to a master builder whose instruments still speak to listeners today.
