Johann Philipp Palm was a German publisher and bookseller whose courageous commitment to intellectual freedom made him a significant figure in early 19th-century European publishing. Operating during a period of strict censorship, Palm became known for his willingness to publish works that challenged political authorities, earning him both respect and danger.

Palm's dedication to the dissemination of ideas ultimately cost him his life when he was executed by French forces in 1806 for publishing materials critical of Napoleon. His sacrifice became a symbol of the struggle for freedom of the press and remains remembered as a pivotal moment in the history of publishing and civil liberties.
