Johann Uphagen

Biography

Johann Uphagen (1731–1802) was a prominent Gdańsk politician and civic leader who contributed significantly to the governance and development of the Free City of Gdańsk during the 18th century. His political career reflected the complex dynamics of Baltic trade and diplomacy.

Uphagen's long life spanned a period of considerable change in Northern Europe. He was interred in the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Gdańsk, a testament to his standing within the city's merchant and political elite.
