Johanna Chandler

Biography

Johanna Chandler (1820–1875) devoted her energy and means to championing the arts and the artisans who created them, underwriting exhibitions, concerts and studios so that the cultural life of London could flourish beyond the usual elite circles. She made it her mission to bring public attention to artists of talent who lacked connections, especially women whose work might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
