Biography

John Andrew Barnes III enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and in 1967 gave his life in Vietnam while covering a grenade to save his fellow Marines, an act that earned him the Medal of Honor.

He remains a symbol of courageous self-sacrifice, a reminder that the noblest service is offered without thought of glory when friends are in peril.
