Biography

John Ball Laurens (1799-1827), the son of statesman Henry Laurens, pursued education and civic engagement, hoping to carry forward his family's dedication to the republic while championing the causes of learning and charity.

Although his life was brief, his friends remembered him for a gentle mind, earnest conversation, and the warmth with which he encouraged others to work for the public good.
