John Caven

Biography

John Caven was born in 1824 and served several terms as mayor of Indianapolis, overseeing a period of growth and civic improvement and earning a reputation for steady, thoughtful governance. His leadership helped expand the city’s infrastructure and public services for citizens of all backgrounds.

He is laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery, where his many contributions to Indianapolis’s civic life are still celebrated by those who walk the avenues he helped shape.
