Biography

John Charles Lucas-Calcraft was born in 1770 and belonged to the gentry class that exercised considerable influence over English provincial life. His existence spanned the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a period marked by political upheaval, social reform, and the beginnings of industrial transformation.

Lucas-Calcraft died in 1851 at an advanced age, having witnessed the full span of the Georgian and early Victorian eras. He was interred at St Martin's Church in Ancaster, Lincolnshire, where his monument would stand as a testament to his family's long association with the parish and the surrounding region.
