John Coffee Hays

Biography

John Coffee Hays earned renown as a rugged military officer and Texas Ranger before bringing his leadership and frontier experience to California. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army and as a civic leader, guiding others through the uncertainties of a rapidly changing West.

Hays’ dedication to the men under his command and to the wider community established a tradition of honor and service, and he was laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.
