Biography

John Collins Covell devoted his life to the education of students with sensory impairments, serving as principal of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton and advocating for compassionate instruction that prepared young people for productive citizenship.

He continued to refine specialized pedagogy in West Virginia later in life, and his commitment to inclusive education is carried forward in the memory kept at Indian Mound Cemetery.
