Biography

John Dalton, born in 1766, was an English physicist and chemist whose meticulous experiments with gases and vapors laid the foundation of modern atomic theory and gave the world a systematic understanding of the elements.

His later years were spent quietly advancing scientific measurement in Manchester while remaining true to his Quaker roots, and he now rests in Ardwick Cemetery where colleagues once honored his steady intellect.
