Biography

John Duncan Patterson was born in 1816 and became a longtime steward of the Westfield area, partnering with neighbors to raise crops, strengthen roads, and celebrate the civic life of the town.

For decades he offered counsel to newcomers, sharing knowledge that helped families thrive in western Massachusetts, and he was laid to rest in Westfield Cemetery where the community still honors his silent kindness.
