Biography
John Franklin Enders (1897–1985) was a pioneering virologist whose work isolating the poliovirus earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and opened the door to vaccines for measles and other childhood diseases.
He remained dedicated to mentoring younger scientists and to sharing the importance of research with the public, and he now rests at Fairview Cemetery.
