Biography

John Fryer (1753–1817) entered the Royal Navy and, over decades of service, commanded ships in distant theatres, helping to protect trade routes and uphold the Navy’s reputation for discipline and seamanship.

In retirement at Wells-next-the-Sea he remained close to the coast, advising younger officers, supporting seafaring families, and sharing his experience with the town that sheltered him.
