Biography

John G. Burkhalter devoted himself to the United States Army across decades that saw the nation contend with global conflict and peacetime vigilance. As a career officer he balanced assignments overseas with work at home, putting the welfare of the soldiers around him at the center of every decision.

His quiet strength and personal example gave confidence to generations of troops, and he carried the lessons of service into every new command, building camaraderie and readiness wherever he served. Friends and family remember him for thoughtful counsel and steady faith, and he is now honored among the nation’s heroes at Arlington National Cemetery.
