Biography
John G. Downey journeyed from Ireland to California, becoming its seventh governor and guiding the young state through trying times with a calm demeanor and a belief in opportunity for all citizens.
After public office he continued to invest in education, the arts, and philanthropic ventures, leaving a generous imprint on the communities he loved before being laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
