Biography

John H. Evins entered the world in 1830, and the Magnolia neighborhood soon felt his warmth as he worked alongside neighbors to sustain the trees and gardens that gave the area its name.

Even as life brought trials, he remained a reassuring figure, helping with practical tasks and offering a ready ear; when he passed in 1884 he was laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetery, where magnolias continue to bloom above his grave.
