John Henry Foley
1818–1874 (age 56)
Biography
John Henry Foley gained renown for his marble and bronze sculptures, including the statue of Prince Albert for the Albert Memorial and numerous works for churches and public spaces. His delicate modelling and energetic poses brought life to historical figures, and he became a Royal Academician cherished by patrons around the country.
One of his later commissions set in St. Paul's Cathedral reflects the calm grace that marked his best work, and though he died far too young, the cathedral still bears witness to his dedication to the faithful expression of human dignity.
