Biography
John Hugh McNary (1867–1936) practiced law in Oregon before his appointment as a federal judge, a post he held for nearly a quarter century. Throughout that time he presided over District of Oregon cases with a keen sense of fairness and a steady hand, guiding the court through periods of economic and social change.
Outside the courtroom he supported civic life, mentored younger lawyers, and cherished the trust his community placed in him; he rests at Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
