Biography

John J. Jacob led Wheeling's growth as a businessman and civic leader, investing in finance, transportation, and public improvements so that the city could thrive amid rapid industrial change.

He also supported local charities and institutions that served workers and their families, and when he passed in 1893 his remains were placed at Indian Mound Cemetery, where his name stands as a symbol of the city's industrious spirit.
