Biography

John Jay (1745-1829) was a Founding Father who served as the first Chief Justice of the United States, as well as a diplomat, governor, and ardent supporter of the rule of law and constitutional government.

Even after retiring to his estate in Westchester County, he remained a model of public virtue, and his grave at John Jay Cemetery recalls a lifetime spent in the service of the republic and in the promotion of education and reconciliation.
