John Kane

Biography

John Kane arrived in America from Scotland and became a self-taught painter whose depictions of industrial and rural life captured the spirit of his adopted country. His work, often rendered with bold colors and inventive textures, brought a new American sensibility to landscape and urban scenes.

Elected to the National Academy of Design, Kane encouraged fellow workers to take pride in their surroundings, leaving behind canvases that continue to resonate with viewers for their warmth, humanity, and honesty.
