Biography

Born in Connecticut in 1826, John Lyman Chatfield was known among friends and family for his quiet integrity and sense of responsibility. He answered the call to service when the nation fractured and devoted himself to the troops under his charge, earning the trust of those who marched beside him.

He continued to lead with courage through the trials of the Civil War until his death in 1863, and those who survived him honored his memory with a resting place at Riverside Cemetery.
