Biography
John Macoun (1831–1920) was a pioneering Canadian naturalist whose extensive work in natural history and scientific observation contributed substantially to the understanding of Canada's flora, fauna, and natural environment. His career spanned much of the nineteenth century and into the twentieth, marking him as a foundational figure in Canadian natural sciences.
Macoun's dedication to naturalistic study and his prolific contributions to scientific knowledge earned him recognition among his peers. His long life and productive career left an enduring impact on Canadian natural history, and he was honored with burial in Beechwood Cemetery.
